After graduating from Monterey Bay Academy in 1965, Dick Osborn went on to attend and graduate from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland. He continued on to graduate studies attaining his Masters degree and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland and the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University. He is now Associate Director, Senior College/University Commission for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). After eight years as President of Pacific Union College, he is enjoying this new chapter of his career. Dick is responsible for 39 campuses including the American Conservatory Theater, Azusa Pacific University, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, The Scripps Research Institute, University of California San Diego, and UC Santa Barbara.

Dick has worked at every level of education: elementary school teacher and principal, an academy teacher and principal, a conference superintendent, a union director of education, and a North American Division Vice President for Education, where he served on 15 college/university boards.
Eight years as President of Pacific Union College provided one of the most important backgrounds for his current position. In addition, Dick has always tried to be involved in professional volunteer work outside of the church. He has served many organizations, a few of which are: Dr. Richard Osborn '65, Worship Hour Speaker
Currently Associate Director, Senior College/University Commission for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)

  • Chair of the Association of Independent California Colleges & Universities with 76 colleges/universities ranging in size from USC and Stanford to PUC and smaller institutions.

According to Dick, his professional work for the church and his volunteer service provided an important background for working with the accreditation of colleges and universities in California. He is also a published author of many works on both education and history subjects.

Dick’s wife, Norma Keogh Osborn, serves as an Associate Pastor for the Pacific Union College Church. They have two children: Heather Osborn Ng, attorney, residing in the Napa Valley, and Trevan, Associate Pastor, Patterson Avenue SDA Church, Richmond, VA. Dick and Norma reside in Angwin, California.
